UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network

Information

The aim of the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN) is to conduct high-quality, multicentre, randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that answer questions of importance to clinicians and patients. It is a collaborative network of dermatologists, dermatology nurses, GPs, health services researchers and patients throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

The UK DCTN is currently setting up two parallel studies (one funded by Action Medical Research and the other by the BUPA Foundation) to investigate whether prophylactic antibiotics can prevent recurrences of cellulitis in two different patient populations. We also have a number of other studies in development in areas such as pyoderma gangrenosum, bullous pemhigoid and lentigo maligna.

The Network welcomes trial suggestions from anyone with a desire to conduct research into skin disease. Suggestions can be submitted throughout the year and will be considered at the next steering group meeting. These are held in February, July and October each year. We are particularly pleased to consider trial suggestions relating to less common skin conditions, which have a tradition of being poorly researched.

More information regarding the activities of the Network can be found on the website. Members can discuss topics of interest on the UKDCTN discussion forum.
