For the last 4 months(at least) I have been in an ongoing dispute with my line manager/HR manager regarding my wanting to travel to training and the occasional meeting by public transport. The main reason for this is that I am not covered for business use on my existing policy and it would incur a charge to add this to my cover, one which I am not prepared to pay as I have never needed this before.
I have been repeatedly asking for information re: current travel policy/mileage rates etc but have never really received a proper reply. I have been repeatedly told that I must change my insurance but I have asked what would be the situation if I did not own a car and the response every time is, " but you do!". - Not very helpful. Recently I found an e-mail and discovered that we have a travel expenses team located within the payroll department - news to me! I have spoken to them and they informed me of all of my options re: modes of transport which I can use, mileage rates and how to claim my expenses. Very helpful. Only problem now is that my manager has said that basically following her discussion with the HR guy she is not prepared to sign any expense forms unless I do as they wanted and drive. This is following the last e-mail which she forwarded to me from this manager in which it implied that it was not an unreasonable requirement that I may need to travel off site for training - I NEVER REFUSED TO DO THIS! I just don't want to drive. Can anyone help me with this? I feel like I am banging my head into the wall. Any advice will be appreciated. |
