Default Streets ahead Cycling Conference

The Streets Ahead Conference is being held on Saturday 15th November hosted by Warrington Cycle Campaign please see www.warringtoncyclecampaign.co.uk and follow the STREETS AHEAD links. It is better to look at the web directly but the Agenda is attached and also pasted below. The conference focusses on achieving 20mph in residentidential areas, taking action on bad driving Strict Liability. During the lunchtime Street Market ther will be a discussion 'Why is the NHS so bad at promoting cycling?' this is despite the well known health promotion effect of cycling, Foresight Reports and NICE guidance.

Streets Ahead Conference
Cyclists and PedestriansCampaigning Together, Succeeding Together.
Following on from its successful 2005 conference, Warrington Cycle Campaign will once again be hosting the
Cyclenation/CTC conference on November 15th 2008. Using the same venue as in 2005 the conference will provide real stimulation and empowerment for campaigners seeking to make our streets a better place to be.
The conference is planned to create new leverage for the policies that Warrington Cycle Campaign, Cyclenation, CTC and forward looking road campaigning organisations believe will be the most effective in creating a “paradigm shift” in the way in which roads and streets are shared in the UK. Namely a 20 mph speed limit for urban and residential roads, and the adoption of “strict liability”.
These policies benefit far more than cyclists and reach out to all of those who walk, cycle or even ride horses. Hence the conference will for the first time be inviting delegates from pedestrian, road safety, transport and other campaigns. We have therefore adopted a new format for conference which enables much of the “mode specific” content to be elective.
The conference also explores the opportunity for different organisations to lever up their effectiveness through multi-lateral action by local campaign groups on common initiatives combined with central campaigning.
We will therefore have presentations from CTC, Cyclenation and Living Streets on their individual campaign plans for 2009. We expect this to be a great opportunity for national campaigns to get valuable feedback from delegates either in this session and the subsequent Street Market.
Core presentations on 20 mph and strict liability will maximise the benefit to all attendees whilst our new “Street Market” session will enable mode specific content and networking to satisfy individual needs. Most importantly we will be hearing from campaigners with real success stories on gaining local authority acceptance for 20 mph.
The “Street Market” will be far more than simply poster stands and take place in an extended lunch break. The
street market layout will provide stalls for poster presentations, engagement and discussions. There will even be a “soapbox” for very informal debate.
For the main part of the conference we have some excellent speakers planned who will bring us all up to date with both local success stories and national progress. This format will be aimed at ensuring that all delegates go away armed with information, stories and most of all inspiration to follow through these important policies in a coordinated manner via local campaigning.
