We have undergone a District Nursing review and it has been highlighted that some staff would like the support / access to a Community Matron out of hours, nights, weekends etc
How many matrons cover weekends out of hours and nights. How much demand is there for CM cover? |

Iam working as a cm in sunderland, and although we work weekends its difficuilt to co-ordinate much as others are usually a 5day services ie GP / Social services. I would think night cover would be looked as just urgent cover.

Hi I am a CM in Hampshire. We currently do not cover weekends, evenings or bank holidays, as we are not an emergency service. Action plans are in place and we utilise the current out of hours services rather than doubling up. Vicky

Hi im a cm in Salford. Like Victoria, we also do not cover weekends or Bank Holidays although we did an on-call pilot study for 3 months and found that the service was used very little out of hours. Sharon.

Hi Gina,
I am a community matron in NCT and we each have to cover a weekend, along with a D/N sister. We work with a team of staff nurses and an auxilliary nurse, the senior nurses are based in an office along with gps and navigator nurses. We direct operations and deal with any problems and visit the more complex cases if required. Although this gives 7 days cover we also have a c/m who works for the out of hrs service, however, she is also the lead for the service so has to work on days to oversee everything, which means she only works 2 evenings per week. we currently have no c/m covering nights. Regards, Helen |
