Default Web 2.0, Social networking sites..how can the NHS benefit from its use?

Hi All, I find myself being drawn into the world of web 2.0 which is your facebook, rss feeds, reading blogs etc. It seems like most of my activities at home or work revolves around it and it has proved to be a cheap source for reaching the masses and getting information.

It got me thinking about our healthcare system in comparison to the US where majority are online and have control over their healthcare. Most of the health workers from HR to patients are using this social networking sites to recruit, communicate and collaborate. Even Mr Obama used it for his presidential campiagn, the result is evident

If the benefits of it outweigh the drawbacks WHY IS THE NHS STILL BEHIND ON IT? I would like to know your thoughts on this matter, whether we are too traditional in our thinking?
