Nothing About You, Without You

Does your local CCG have patient representatives on the board, our's does not. At the moment it is "Nothing About You, With You", all the critical decisions required in setting up the Dudley CCG are being made without any patient involvement, is it the same in your area. When we asked about patient involvement we were told that two salaried lay members were to be appointed to the board shortly, not patient representatives. Patient representatives will only be appoint when guidance is available from the government and not before.
Please let me know what is happening in your area.
All local CCG's have to appoint two Lay members, one of whom is the lead on patient engagement. They are responsible for engaging with the community and feeding back to the CCG. They should have a resource available to them the allow this to happen. The lay members are not saleried posts they are not employees of the NHS.
The meeting are open to the public who may observe the meetings.
The CCG regulations will be debated in the House of Lords on 16th October. I have a motion down to deplore the government's approach and particularly the ludicrous exclusion of local authority and local doctors and nurses from the CCG Board. Any info on what is happening locally would be welcome to huntp@parliament.uk Thanks
Phil Hunt, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, House of Lords

"We have 3 lay members on the Board:
1 Lay Vice Chair – governance role – an appointed NED-type role (ours is ‘on loan’ from the cluster PCT, by who he is paid)
2 Patient and Public engagement champions: each voluntary roles
1) the nominee (elected chair) from Milton Keynes Patient Congress (which has 1 rep from each Practice Patient Group)
2) a co-opted member with experience of public and patient engagement
We have also established a Public and Patient Advisory Forum to advise and assure the Board that PPE is being conducted effectively
