Non drug tariff appliances

Has anybody else explored the issue of medical appliances/equipment which are not included in the drug tariff and therefore can not be provided on FP10?

Increasing we are seeing patients discharged home with an appliance (to support their care) which need consumables supplied on an on going basis, looking to (possibly) commission a service to cater for this

Thoughts/ideas gratefully received

Thanks

Hello,

I wrote my Masters dissertation on using nebulised bronchodilators in COPD in the community and as a result was able to critique the lack of info relating to local nebuliser services. Came across the nebuliser purchasing guidelines from NHS purchasing which would help underpin the rationale for providing specific nebulisers with specific patients instead of the '1 size fits all' approach currently used in my local DGH in order to address whole life savings for those on nebulisers (if they're actually needed at all when lots of other criteria have been addressed!). Sourcing, financing and using nebuliser consumables is a massive grey area nationwide and is a very inequitable service nationally.

Hope this is of interest to you.
