COPD Challenges for CCBs

In preparing at short notice for an informal interview for a Local COPD / Respiratory Lead in my PCT, I need to very quickly summarise the challenges for setting up a new local COPD service.

I have identified Pulmonary  Rehab, Oxygen service and provision of diagnostic facilities (Spirometry/ who needs Oxygen) as the main challenges in our PCT where respiratory services have been underresourced:

Can anyone with experience of setting up local COPD service from scratch, suggest other anticipated challenges.

Hi Mark

How many of your CCGs registered COPD list are still smoking. Do all practices have trained stop smoking counsellors and do they offer stop smoking in COPD in the right way ie TREATMENT rather than prevention.

Building bridges between primary care and secondary care is initially an effort but brings great rewards. I see in Islington how virtual clinics by a integrated care respiratory consultant with primary care leading the agenda has been really successful.

Getting everyone trained in inhaler technique and responsible prescribing
