Individual Peer Supporters (IPS) are people who have a lived experience of mental distress. The IPS service in Northampton is based in the town centre library in a space dedicated to well-being. Peer supporters are trained in, and work within the context of, the recovery approach. People experiencing common mental health problems who are seen by a member of the primary care team (GP / practice nurse) are given the contact number of the service. They can choose to use the service to access support, information and self management tools to assist them in their own recovery.
Please let me know if you need a fuller description of the service and how it operates. Categories for this entry: Choice and Mental Health |
