Community matron service – Lung Cancer Project

The community matron service have been involved in a lung cancer project (part of the national cancer collaborative) where they have been the primary care key workers for patients with stage 4 lung cancer.
This client group have poor prognosis and experienced both lots of NGH admissions and high probability of place of death being NGH. The project involved discussion with patients on the choice for place of death and with the key worker collaborative approach to care, patient choice of place of death was almost always realised.
