Databases of good practice
NHS Networks has four searchable databases of good practice:
Choice Case Studies Database
In early 2007, NHS Networks was asked to help the Department of Health Choice team by gathering good examples of ‘choice’ in four areas:
-
mental health
-
long term conditions
-
cancer
-
end of life care
The case studies collected were supplied to the DH who were able to select certain ones for use in a Choice Framework in Summer 2007. NHS Networks’ remit is to share information and good practice so, with the appropriate permissions, we created this database of examples of Choice from the case studies received.
Learning from Practice
Learning from Practice is a database with more than 270 examples of commissioning and demand management practice from all parts of the NHS, largely drawn from a survey conducted through NHS Networks in March and April 2006. Published to support the DH Commissioning Framework of July 2006, it provides a wealth of evidence on:
- how demand for hospital services is being reduced
- how real savings / productivity gains are being made
- how patients' experiences and outcomes are being improved
Database of Good Ideas
In November 2005, NHS Networks, on behalf of the Department of Health, asked PCTs to submit case studies of good practice matching one or more of four criteria identified during the Your Health, Your Care, Your Say consultation. These have now been compiled into a searchable database. The four criteria are:
- Integration
- Prevention
- Rapid access
- Services normally provided in hospital
Can Do!
In 2004, the NHS Alliance and NatPaCT asked their various networks for GPs, nurses, allied and other primary care professionals and PCT leaders for examples of how good working relationships between PCTs and their clinicians are transforming health services for patients and the public. The result was Can Do! - a catalogue of success from over 100 Primary Care Trusts.
Fast Forward
The NHS Alliance, working with NatPaCT, followed this in 2005 with a second publication in the series - Fast Forward. Fast Forward has almost 200 examples of good practice in key areas of work.
