SWAGNET, the South West London HIV/GUM Diseases Network runs this course which has been developed by the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH). The October 2008 course is organised by Dr Gill McCarthy, Consultant HIV/GUM at the Wolverton Centre, Kingston Hospital. The January 2009 course is organised by Dr Mette Rodgers, Consultant HIV/GUM at the Department of GU Medicine, Mayday University Hospital.

The aim of the course is to equip participants with the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes for the effective management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) outside the GUM setting.

Applications are invited from doctors and nurses working in general practice or family planning and reproductive health, GUM NCCGs, health advisers, school nurses and secondary care clinicians (who may encounter patients with STIs eg. O&G, A&E, rheumatology and ophthalmology). The course costs £200 and places are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Priority will be given to staff working in South West London.
