A poll of 707 visitors to the NHS Networks site found a two-thirds majority in favour of complete smoking bans on NHS property.

Harm reduction in nicotine addiction: Helping people who can't quit (PDF, 1.9MB)
Report by the Tobacco Advisory Group of the Royal College of Physicians which makes the case for harm reduction strategies to protect smokers. Demonstrates that smokers smoke predominantly for nicotine, that nicotine itself is not especially hazardous, and that if nicotine could be provided in a form that is acceptable and effective as a cigarette substitute, millions of lives could be saved.
Smoking legislation in MH units (PDF, 32KB)
Professor Louis Appleby, National Director for Mental Health, has written to the Chief Executives of all MH Trusts and SHAs explaining how the new smoking laws will affect residential MH units. The anti-smoking legislation which comes into effect in England and Wales on 1 July 2007 will not apply to MH units until 1 July 2008. (February 2007)
