Two new Chief Executives have been appointed as Chief Executives for the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authorities. Bill McCarthy has been appointed chief executive of NHS Yorkshire and Humber, and Ian Cumming is now the chief executive of NHS West Midlands.

Another merger, subject to approval by SHA and Secretary of State, is between Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland Mental Health NHS Trust, South of Tyne and Wearside Mental Health NHS Trust and Northgate and Prudhoe NHS Trust. Thomas Hanahoe, currently Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Hertfordshire, has been appointed Chair of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. He takes over from Acting Chair Robin Douglas on 1 December.

Chris Town, Chief Executive of the Greater Peterborough Primary Care Partnership, has been appointed to the post of Project Director leading the configuration of a new PCT for Cambridgeshire combining the existing six PCTs. Deputy CEO Angela Barr takes over as Acting Chief Executive.

Sheila Childerness, Chair of West Norfolk PCT, has been seconded to the post of Chair of Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn, effective from 1 November. PCT Vice-Chair Margaret Cook takes over as Chair.

Mike Ridley, Chief Executive of South Worcestershire PCT left on 2 November to become Acting Chief Executive of both North Stoke PCT and South Stoke PCT. Paul Bates takes over as Acting Chief Executive of South Worcestershire PCT in addition to his current role as Chief Executive of Herefordshire PCT.
